MCS celebrates 23rd Annual Senior High Commencement

On Saturday, May 27th, Madison Christian School celebrated the Class of 2023 during the 23rd Annual Senior High Commencement Ceremony. Surrounded by family, friends, and the MCS Community, 32 graduating seniors were honored for completing the milestone of graduating high school.

To start the event, Rev. Paul Barnes, Madison Christian Church Lead Minister, gave the Opening Prayer followed by a Welcome from Head of School Debbie Ostrander. The High School Choir performed “Great is Thy Faithfulness” under the direction of Heather Coyan.

Principal Kim Miller announced the recipients of the Academic and MCS Character Awards:

Valedictorian: Eden Eyayaw

Salutatorian: Lauren Johnson

Boldness and Faith Award: Jenna Habegger

Faithful Servant Award: Sarah Harris

Fruit of the Spirit Award: Jenna Habegger

Godly Wisdom Award: Lauren Johnson

State of Ohio Honors Diploma: Victoria Adams, Wyatt Allen, Taylor Byrd, Anna Carrico, Avery Casto, Taylor Chadwell, Eden Eyayaw, Jenna Habegger, Madelyn Harris, Sarah Harris, Jon Hovance, Lauren Johnson, Caleb Leach, Colby Mayberry, Annabelle Price, Nia Price

History Department Chair Tim Allen and English Department Chair Ryan Pettit gave the Commencement Address. They sat down for one last conversation with the seniors, sharing ten principles for life that they have found helpful for a Christian life well-lived. 

Dean of Students Philip Slonaker and Guidance Counselor Jen Ladd read the names and biographies of the graduating seniors while Principal Kim Miller presented them with their diplomas. The Class of 2023 then presented flowers to their families as a thank you for their support in helping them reach this milestone.  

Head of School Debbie Ostrander recognized the long-term partnership of several graduation seniors and their families by presenting the Legacy Awards and Longevity Recognitions:

Legacy Award (attended MCS from kindergarten through 12th grade): Colleen Bostic, Taylor Byrd, Taylor Chadwell, Wyatt Evans, Jon Hovance, Lauren Johnson, Logan Overman, Annabelle Price, Natalie Scholz, Ben Sears 

Longevity Recognition (attended MCS from Primary School through 12th grade): Avery Casto, Marilyn Gomez, Jenna Habegger, Madeline Harris, Gavin Luke

Rev. Paul Barnes gave a Closing Prayer before the Class of 2023 was officially presented as graduated. Congratulations Class of 2023!
