Eagle Update

Madison Christian School April 2022 Newsletter

A Message from the Head of School:

Dear MCS Community,

I'd like to share with you an exciting new partnership we have with the Ohio Christian Education Network Scholarship Granting Organization (OCEN SGO). Thanks to Ohio's new state tax credit, taxpayers can receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit (up to $750 per taxpayer) when they donate to the OCEN SGO. Donors can specify their donation be designated to Madison Christian School so that all funds go toward scholarships for our students. Learn how it works here.

In turn, all contributions will be used for scholarships to qualified students at our school. Students with a demonstrated financial need are prioritized to receive these scholarships, but all students are encouraged to apply. Students must apply at ohiocen.org/sgo and email a single page of their household's most recent tax return that shows their household's adjust gross income (AGI) to [email protected] in order for their application to be complete.

Thank you for partnering with Madison Christian School. If you have any questions, please contact our Administrative Office at 614-497-3456.

In His service by grace,
Michael P. Egenreider, MS

6th-Grade Science Fair: Our 6th-grade students have worked hard on their Science Fair projects this month. They presented their projects in class and had a display night for families to come and see all the wonderful projects.

ACSI Speech Meet: We had 39 elementary students participate in the ACSI Speech Meet competition. Our students competed in the categories of Scripture Memorization, Poetry, Fable/Folklore, or Patriotic Oration. We had 12 students score in the Superior rating, 23 score in the Excellent rating, and 4 score in the Good rating!

ACSI Math Olympics: Students in Grades 3-8 recently participated in ACSI's National Math Olympics. The Math Olympics is a series of timed tests where students compete against students in their grade level and in the categories of Arithmetic Computation or Mathematical Reasoning. MCS had several students place in the Top 5:

  • Grade 4: Kendal M. (3rd in Reasoning) & Caleb Z. (4th in Reasoning)
  • Grade 7: Ruth D. (2nd in Computation), Luke M. (3rd in Reasoning), Madison M. (4th in Reasoning), & Lexi M. (5th in Computation)
  • Grade 8: Hyatt S. (1st in Reasoning), Lena L. (2nd in Computation), & Cole K. (3rd in Reasoning)
Cheaper by the Dozen: Middle School and High School Theater students did a wonderful job with their production of "Cheaper by the Dozen." The message about the preciousness of time was beautifully communicated. Congratulations and thank you to all who helped to make this production a success!

Madison Madness: Student Council organized Madison Madness, a volleyball tournament meant to imitate college basketball's March Madness. Grade-level volleyball teams played against each other during lunch periods throughout the week. From those results, teams were placed in a final playoff bracket where the winning teams competed for the championship at a Friday afternoon pep rally. The competition was close between the final 3 teams, but in the end, an 11th-grade team defeated a 10th-grade team to win the tournament!

Easter Chapel: We will celebrate Easter in a special all-school chapel on Thursday, April 14.

Easter/Spring Break (No School): April 15-22

The Gala (Spring Formal): Saturday, April 30 at Wagnalls Memorial Library in Lithopolis. This event is for MCS students in Grades 10-12. (No outside guests or MCS students in lower grade levels.) Movie Night (Grades 7-9): Save the date for Saturday, May 7 from 8:00-11:00 p.m. More information to come.

Service Hours: Service hour logs for Grades 7-11 are due May 12 to your Bible teacher. These service hours are a required part of the Spiritual Formation Plan for each student. Grades 7, 8, and 9 are required to have 10 hours per year; Grade 10 must serve for 20 hours per year; Grade 11 = 30 hours per year; Grade 12 = 40 hours per year.
