And Jesus grew in wisdom (Academic) and stature (Physical) and in favor with God (Spiritual) and man (Social & Emotional).

The Madison Christian School (MCS) program (curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular) is carefully crafted to help each student:

Grow to become more like Jesus
Achieve academic excellence

Expected Student Outcomes (ESO) state the desired general description of what a MCS graduate should know, be able to do and be. MCS realizes that while all ESO are to be measured, some can be measured by MCS and some only by the student and/or the student’s family. While MCS’s desire is that all graduates reach all the goals, we understand that each student/graduate is a work in progress; it is the heartfelt desire of our faculty, staff and administration to further that progress. MCS’s graduation requirements are stated in the handbook and have been influenced by the ESO, among other things. The ESO drive MCS’s Program (curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular) so that each student will be exposed to, will be able to express, and hopefully, will experience all ESO.

A. Spiritual (Faith and Values)

“Educating for Eternity” encompasses evangelism and discipleship as the school seeks to lead all students toward God and helps believers grow to be like Him. Lost people matter to God and to us. Our focus is life application of biblical knowledge.

“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”

The student will understand and experience a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
The student will understand and commit to become a serious disciple of Jesus Christ.
The student will understand and value the person of the Holy Spirit and His gifts.
The student will strive to know and submit to the will of God in his/her daily life.
The student will recognize the need for Jesus in order to live a righteous life.
The student will apply a biblical worldview to all aspects of life.
The student will be able to articulate and defend his/her faith.
The student will honor and respect the Bible as God’s authoritative Word.
The student will know, understand and apply basic biblical principles to daily life.

B. Academic (Intellectual and Vocational)

The faculty teaches high academic standards using God’s Word of truth in an atmosphere of love. Educational excellence is the result of providing a God-centered teaching staff and curriculum. These enable students to become lifelong learners, fully equipped to evaluate the issues of life using biblical principles, a biblical worldview, and wisdom.

“A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.”

The student will display good study habits and research skills leading to the student’s ability to engage the marketplace with positive intellectual inquiry.
The student will obtain an overall intellectual education equal to or exceeding the state and national academic standards.
The student will develop skills to investigate, problem solve and make wise decisions.
The student will use biblical values to establish personal, academic, and social priorities.
The student will develop a righteous standard based upon the truth of God’s Word.
Language Arts: The student will demonstrate proficiency in the communication process including reading, writing,speaking and listening.
Mathematics: The student will demonstrate the computational skills needed for life in the 21st century.
Social Studies/Humanities: The student will obtain an understanding of history, geography and the social sciences that emphasizes the sovereignty of God and the influence of the past upon the present and the future.
Science: The student will understand the tenants of creationism and obtain an appreciation for the physical and biological sciences and for the scientific method.
Bible: The student will understand the basic content involved in biblical literacy and develop the skills needed for a lifetime of personal Bible study.
Electives: The student will take the opportunity to develop intellectually by exploring elective classes including the fine arts, the practical arts, foreign languages and technology.

C. Social and Emotional

The faculty, staff and administration exemplify healthy interpersonal relationships as evidenced by a demonstration of the fruit of the Spirit. When people face a time of crisis, it is an opportunity for ministry. We will put Jesus first, others second, self last. God created us as social beings, but with that comes responsibility for our thoughts, words and actions. Relationships with others need to be honoring and respectful while maintaining appropriate boundaries and utilizing effective communication.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

- Galatians 5:22-23a

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

The student will treat everyone with honor by demonstrating love, respect, integrity and godliness toward others.
The student will demonstrate respect to those in positions of authority.
The student will commit him/herself to moral, mental, visual and physical purity.
The student will demonstrate a servant’s heart, exhibit justice and mercy in his/her relationships and resolve conflict in a God-honoring way (Matthew 18).
The student will prepare for the responsibilities and privileges of a voting citizen of the United States.
The student will understand the concepts of proclaiming the Word of God, worship, prayer, tithing, fellowship and building up the body of Christ.
The student will understand the value of service and strive to meet the needs of others.

D. Physical

Since our bodies belong to God, we must not violate His standards for living. Curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities contribute to the skills and physical development of students.

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?

You are not your own; you were bought with a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”

- 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

The student will recognize that each individual (even the unborn) is uniquely created in the image of God and is loved by God and therefore of great worth.
The student will maintain and understand a lifestyle of purity in regard to anything (eg. substances and activities) that can be harmful to the body, spirit or mind.
The student will honor God by treating his/her body according to the biblical standard of appropriate choices, grooming, attire, rest, care, hygiene, nourishment, and exercise.
