MCS Community celebrates MLK

On January 17, 2023, the MCS Community came together to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. at the MLK Celebration.
 
MCS Faculty Jean Gilbert opened the event with prayer and explained the importance of the day. Several 3rd-5th grade students narrated "The Life of MLK" presentation created by Junior Joy Freeman followed by MCS Parent and Diversity Committee Member Nicole Nelson powerfully singing "We Shall Overcome" a cappella. Diversity Committee President Jeff Howell spoke about MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech and introduced the next speakers. 

Senior Jon H. presented MLK's words from the Birmingham jail followed by Seniors Eden E. and Nia P. giving a summary of initiatives that began as a result of MLK's life. Junior Noah S. presented MLK's powerful "Mountaintop" speech before Student Teacher Jordan Divine sang MLK's favorite hymn of “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” and Senior Ethan N. closed in prayer.
