Faculty and staff gather for Convocation

Convocation began with a wonderful time of faculty and staff worshiping together, followed by Head of School Dr. Tim Houston presenting the theme and verse for the year:

Humility (Latin: Humilitas / Greek: Tapeinophrosýnē) - Philippians 2:3-4 (ESV): “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

“Humility is the seedbed we want to nurture in our students this year,” said Dr. Houston. “Though Humility is not one of the cardinal virtues [prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude], it is considered foundational to them, and is described as the mother of all virtues.” He presented the struggle of pride and humility pulling a person in opposite directions, graciously demonstrated by Mr. Hermetz!

Director of Personnel Mr. Phil Slonaker and Dr. Houston announced new staff roles and presented the Longevity Awards:

Academic Dean Kim Miller then shared this year's school and instructional goals before Dr. Houston reminded the group why MCS exists: To assist parents in biblically training their children by offering succinct and consistent Christ-centered and classical academic instruction and virtue formation.

Employees have also been participating in Orientation and various trainings to prepare for the start of the school year. The faculty and staff have been praying for the students and are excited to welcome them for the first day of school on Wednesday, August 20th! See our Back to School page for more information.
