Convocation began with a wonderful time of faculty and staff worshiping together, followed by Head of School Dr. Tim Houston presenting the theme and verse for the 2026-2027 school year:
Steadfast and Immovable in Christ - 1 Corinthians 15:58 (ESV): “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain."
“We strive to be a school that remains steadfast when everything else is changing,” said Dr. Houston. "Steadfastness is faithfully fulfilling God's call one ordinary day at a time."
Dr. Houston also reminded the group why MCS exists: To assist parents in biblically training their children by offering succinct and consistent Christ-centered and classical academic instruction and virtue formation. "We use the tool of education to shape another generation of souls in truth, goodness, and beauty — virtue formation," he shared.
He explained how steadfastness relates to the cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance:
- Prudence asks, What is right? Steadfastness adds, Will I continue doing what is right?
- Justice asks, What do others deserve? God deserves worship, students deserve dignity, parents deserve honesty, colleagues deserve respect, the vulnerable deserve protection. Steadfastness adds, Will I consistently give it?
- Fortitude asks, Can I face difficulty? Steadfastness adds, Will I remain faithful in prolonged difficulty?
- Temperance asks, Can I govern myself? Steadfastness adds, Will I practice self-control daily?
Next, the principals and administration introduced their returning and new staff members. Director of Personnel Mr. Phil Slonaker then presented the Longevity Awards:
