Faculty members Mr. Jean Gilbert and Señora Nelson opened the event with prayer and explained the importance of celebrating Dr. King's life.
Senior Peter F. recited an excerpt from Dr. King’s “The Drum Major Instinct” sermon before Elementary School Principal Mrs. Tia Lamar explained how to apply it in our lives. The human instinct is to desire to be first and gain recognition, like a drum major leading a parade. However, as Jesus explained to James and John in Mark 10:43-45, whoever wants to be great must serve others. In his sermon, Dr. King encouraged others to be “first in love, first in righteousness, first in generosity, first in justice.”
Unity in Diversity Fellowship students presented a skit titled “Look What the Lord Has Done!” about the revival involving The Ohio State University football team. Mr. Jean Gilbert spoke about how real love must always cost us something and students Jeanelle G., Kendal S., and Hannah H. sang several of Dr. King's favorite hymns and spirituals.
Thank you to everyone who participated and all who were able to join us!
